Areva sets sights on Korea for Renewables

Areva, the French multinational group specialising in nuclear and renewable energy, has appointed Intralink to drive the growth of its hydrogen generation business, Areva H2Gen, in Korea.

The production, storage and distribution of hydrogen is becoming increasingly important to the renewable energy ecosystem, and the Paris-based firm, which uses Proton Exchange Membranes (PEM) technology to generate the gas, is looking to grow its business in one of the key global markets for renewable energy.

Intralink’s Seoul-based Head of Energy, Jonathan Cleave, said, “We are delighted to be working with Areva in Korea, where favourable legislation is a draw for companies promoting renewable energy and sustainability. Our knowledge of the policy environment and the key local players enables our partners, such as AFC Energy, Ceres Power and Alphabet Energy, to navigate local protocols and drive the growth of their business in this market.”

Areva joins a growing number of Intralink clients in the Energy sector looking to take advantage of opportunities in the region. As Cleave adds, “The action is not just in Korea. The recent liberalisation of the energy market in Japan, which is also home to some of the largest global infrastructure players, has been a driver for many of our clients in the renewable energy and smart grid space.

“And now China, with its rapidly-growing demand for industrial and domestic energy coupled with its well-publicised environmental problems, presents a major opportunity for western companies looking to address these issues.”
