SIGFOX sets IoT sights on Asia

Oxford – July 14th, 2015 – French startup SIGFOX SA, which has raised more than €100M from investors including Samsung, SK Telecom, and NTT Docomo, has appointed Intralink to support the growth of its IoT network in the Far East.

The Toulouse-based firm is looking at a global roll out of its ultra narrow band LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) to drive the $1.9 trillion market that the Internet of Things is forecast to contribute to the world economy by 2020. By that time it is estimated that there will be over 25 billion connected devices worldwide – the lion’s share of which will be in Asia.

This week executives from the across the world travel to China for MWC Shanghai, one of the biggest events in the telecoms calendar, and where the Internet of Things is one of the hottest topics.

The show plays host to the IoT Summit on 16th & 17th July, and many of Intralink's clients will be in Shanghai looking to grow their presence in the region. These range from connectivity players Bluetooth and Next-G Com, to software testing houses like Testplant, solution provider NTT Data, as well as firms with enabling technologies such as Norway’s Thinflim which this week announced the world’s first “smart” wine bottle.

Intralink Head of Networks Enda Peoples said: “We are delighted to be working with SIGFOX in Asia. The Internet of Things is no longer a concept – it is here and now, and presents a massive opportunity whether you are focusing on the network side, at the device level or on the multitude of applications spanning every sector including energy, retail, automotive & healthcare.”
