Intralink brings cutting-edge technologies to Asia. We are looking for dynamic, proactive Japanese/English bicultural/bilingual go-getters to join our Tokyo Medtech/Life Sciences team. 

Candidates must be native or near-native English speakers with fluent spoken and written Japanese (JLPT Level 1/N1 or equivalent) and should have worked in Japan for a minimum of two years, in medtech/life sciences related research, business or sales.

Business Development Manager – Medtech and Life Sciences (Japan)

The Job

The Intralink Tokyo office is a bilingual working environment located close to Shimbashi Station. This appointment is the ideal opportunity for someone interested in working with western hi-tech companies in a business development, sales and project management role. In this role you will help life sciences and healthcare companies enter the Japanese market by:

  • Evaluating opportunities in Japan in the context of Japanese scientific, operational and clinical needs, and regulatory/legal requirements
  • Identifying routes to market
  • Developing and validating commercial, regulatory, and development strategies
  • Understanding the Japanese healthcare system and positioning products and services

The role involves proactively running hands-on business development projects that include the following responsibilities:

  • Planning, research and analysis using information gathered in Japanese and English from the internet, phone calls and face-to-face meetings
  • Identifying, contacting, meeting, and presenting to Japanese customers/partners
  • Driving business development discussions
  • Managing the whole business development process from initial lead generation to negotiation, closing deals, and account management
  • Interpretation and technical liaison between client and customer Writing regular meeting notes and reports in English for clients

Essential skills:

  • Native or near-native English with strong oral and written presentation skills
  • Fluent spoken and written business Japanese
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in Japan

In addition, candidates with the following experience will be given preference:

  • Experience in sales/business development in Japan
  • Experience working in technology, such as medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or biotechnology
  • A degree in science, engineering or business
  • Strong technical skills
