The investment forms part of the $189 million Verda has just raised, which also includes funding from Emergence Capital, Supermicro and 6 Degrees Capital (6DC). It has taken Verda to ‘unicorn’ status.
Verda is building cloud infrastructure for AI, providing compute that is instant, on-demand and scalable. Headquartered in Helsinki, the company operates across Europe, the US and Asia and employs around 250 people.
Verda engaged us to support its expansion into Japan and we've advised the firm on business development and investment opportunities, including identifying potential strategic investors and financing partners.
As part of this work, we introduced Verda to MUIP this June.
Following an initial meeting in Tokyo, we continued to support the dialogue between the two companies as MUIP explored the opportunity. The discussions ultimately led to MUIP participating in Verda’s funding round.
The project demonstrates how our market-entry support can extend beyond customer and business development to facilitating relationships with strategic investors. For companies entering Japan, such connections can provide access to long-term commercial opportunities as well as much-needed capital.
Anssi Harjunpää, Chief Business Officer at Verda, said:
“Japan is an important market for us, and Intralink has been a valuable partner in building our presence there. Having MUFG on board as a strategic investor strengthens our position as we grow across Asia.”
