After a minimal number of COVID-19 cases over the past two years, China is now battling a sudden resurgence of the virus. The government has doubled down on its zero-COVID policy, vowing to eradicate all cases. Over the past two months, it has rolled out various forms of lockdown and mass testing across many Chinese cities. And Shanghai, China’s economic powerhouse and the base of our Greater China head office, has been at the forefront.

The commercial landscape in South Korea is shifting dramatically, with the emergence of a new breed of fast-growing tech groups – many of them securing unicorn status in sectors such as ecommerce, gaming and finance. And, for western tech firms, the best way to make headway in the Korean market is changing with it.

South Korea faces a growing need for the digitisation of medical practices and for advanced solutions to support a rapidly aging population – presenting a US $5 billion plus market with significant prospects for western tech companies.

Japan has set a bold target to be carbon neutral by 2050 – but it can’t achieve this alone and is looking to the west for its expertise in sustainability and greentech.
