India expansion for US mycology specialist

We've started a business development programme to help North American mycology specialist IMMY to expand its business in India.

The global burden of fungal conditions is growing, with infections affecting more than one billion people worldwide and causing nearly four million deaths every year. Millions more suffer greatly waiting for accurate diagnosis.

Oklahoma-headquartered IMMY is addressing this head-on by providing innovative diagnostic tests and reagents for invasive fungal diseases – with a mission to save lives through fast, reliable diagnosis.

IMMY already has a presence in India through two distributors – but it has recognised that the country presents far greater commercial potential than it’s currently realising.

This is partly because of the sheer scale of the nation, with a population of almost 1.5 billion providing a vast patient base. It’s because of the nation’s well-developed network of state and private hospitals, and the investment being ploughed into improving its healthcare. And it’s because of the prevalence of fungal diseases, which affect 57 million in India every year, including the risk of serious infections for the 2.5 million people living with HIV.

IMMY has now appointed us to take an in-depth look at the Indian market. We’ll be assessing the most fruitful areas of opportunity for the company, and helping our client to develop an effective market expansion strategy for the next three years.

John Bannister, IMMY’s Director of International Sales, explained: "India holds enormous potential for our diagnostic tests – because of its huge patient base, the high incidence of fungal illnesses and the serious investment currently going into the healthcare system.

“But it’s also a complex market to address. So, we’ve asked Intralink’s India team to analyse the opportunity areas and help us develop the most effective growth strategy for the mid-to-long term. We know Intralink has the experience, network, and resources to help us fully understand the market’s commercial potential and take big steps forward.”

Our appointment by IMMY builds on our existing track record in India as we’ve helped Indian companies including Sagacious IP, Valtrix Systems, e-con Systems and InCore Semiconductors to develop their international sales. We’ve also enabled US, European and East Asian companies including Sonatus, PMP Conseil, Fujitsu and Nitto Denko to grow their businesses in India.
