We’ve just opened an office in Beijing to expand our capabilities to help international firms grow in China. And the first three new team members joining us there mean we now have 100 global employees!
Led by our China MD Alex Barton, our new base in China’s capital is an important addition to our long-standing Greater China offices in Shanghai and Taipei. It’s in the Liangmaqiao Diplomatic Office Building in the heart of Beijing’s diplomatic quarter in the northeast of the city.
The office puts us in a great position to represent our international clients to state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and companies headquartered in Beijing – particularly in its thriving IT, telecoms, software, financial services and life sciences sectors.
Corporations there include Xiaomi, Baidu, Didi, Bytedance, Lenovo, Mobvoi, Autonavi, Bank of China, China Mobile, Sinopec and JD.com. And the city boasts 90 universities, 1,000 scientific research institutes and 128 state labs alongside its 30,000 hi-tech enterprises.
The Chinese government has designated Beijing – along with Shanghai - as a major innovation centre, ploughing particular investment into ‘frontier' tech fields including quantum information, AI, digital health and blockchain.
And it’s developing the wider Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area as an integrated innovation region, with Beijing at its centre.
Our new base also puts us close to China’s seat of government and foreign embassies, and within easy reach of corporations across the north-east of the country.
The three staff who’ve joined our Beijing office will work as part of our 25-strong Greater China team to drive business expansion programmes for our international clients across the region.
Our CEO, Greg Sutch, explains: "There are tremendous opportunities in China for international firms, as well as for government bodies looking to deepen their trade and investment links with the country. While our team was already visiting Beijing every week from Shanghai, a permanent presence in the capital was our obvious next step and enables us to deepen our relationships with companies there.
It’s great to see three new team members join us in Beijing, and they’ve enabled us to chalk up a double achievement in one hit – the opening of a new office and milestone of 100 employees!"
