Intralink client DataLase, the UK-based developer of colour change materials for inline printing, has been acquired by their Japanese partner, SATO, a leading global provider of auto-ID and labelling solutions.

Intralink has been working with DataLase in Japan and China for three years to drive the expansion of their APAC business. This included engaging with stakeholders across the ecosystem, and developing the relationship with SATO, from initial introductions through to the completion of the strategic partnership.  As part of the original agreement, SATO took a 33.3% share in DataLase and the two companies created a new subsidiary, SpeciaLase, with exclusive rights to the Japanese and Asia-Pacific markets.

The acquisition is a confirmation of the synergies between the companies and the global opportunities that exist for DataLase’s unique products. DataLase CEO Chris Wyres said, “We are pleased to announce this evolution of our strategic partnership with SATO and firmly believe this will enable our revolutionary inline digital printing solutions to be delivered to a global customer base.”

Will Jasprizza, Managing Director of Intralink Japan, said, “Congratulations to Chris and all the DataLase team on their achievement. We are delighted to have been a part of DataLase’s success in Asia, and SATO’s acquisition is yet another example of the growing need for Japanese corporates to bring in pioneering technologies from the west to ensure competitiveness on the global stage.”
