BD Director, Medtech and Life Sciences (North America)

Are you interested in cutting-edge technologies and global innovation within health, medtech and life sciences?

Do you want to help businesses transform and expand internationally?

Are you a good communicator and a people person?

If that’s three yeses, then we’re looking for someone like you to help us expand our presence in North America. We want you to be our ‘feet on the street’ to discover, engage and sign-up new clients to take on a journey of expansion in Asia.

You’ll work alongside a diverse group of 180+ business development consultants with a deep specialism in Asia. Over 36 years in the business, we’ve helped 2,000 tech scaleups, SMEs, corporates and governments to establish and grow via engaging customers and partners in Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, India, Europe and North America and have generated $ billions in revenues and investments for our clients.

We’re focused on the technologies and ideas that are helping to solve the world’s social, health and environmental challenges. And we’re growing our North America business development team. So, if you think you’re up for the challenge, read on – and apply.

What you'll be doing

As a BD Director, you’ll be interacting with prospective clients daily – through emails, calls, F2F meetings, and trade show visits.
Your role is to promote our services and grow our business throughout the US and Canada, focusing on the life science, diagnostics, biopharma and medical technology sectors.

You’ll be identifying your targets from a diverse pool of innovative scale-ups, SMEs and corporates. You’ll be building relationships, developing proposals, and closing deals – as well as looking after your clients post-sale.

You’ll be talking to founders, CEOs, CCOs and CTOs, so you’ll need to build rapport and establish credibility quickly. You’ll need a track record of closing strategic deals in the life science & medtech sectors, and a clear grasp of the commercial and technical value propositions of your prospects, an understanding of how to tailor services to their needs.

You’ll travel within North America - as well as, occasionally, to Europe and Asia - to meet clients, attend exhibitions and conferences, and see colleagues in our global offices.

You’ll have a full suite of tools at your disposal – from AI lead generation, Salesforce and Sales Navigator to a library of company decks and templates – as well as the day-to-day support and collective experience of your colleagues around the world.

Finally, we’re an employee-owned company and – above all – we value excellence, honesty, dependability, and character.

What you'll be getting

  • A competitive salary and holidays
  • The chance to work with an international team (30+ nationalities and counting) within a diverse and open-minded company culture
  • Ample opportunities for career advancement and responsibility
  • Opportunities to travel within North America, EMEA and Asia
  • A chance to sharpen your sales, consulting and business development skills by learning from best-in-class consultants and business builders
  • Exposure to cutting-edge technologies addressing some of the world’s most pressing issues – seeing how people, ideas and technologies from around the world come together to create game-changing digital healthcare products, life-saving diagnostics and therapies, next-generation medical devices and more

What you'll need

  • 4+ years of sales/business development experience in the life science, diagnostics or medtech sectors, including and a track record of closing deals in the $100k-200k+ range
  • Experience in consulting, either through selling strategic consulting or related services, or delivering results for clients from business development roles (e.g. new client acquisition)
  • An understanding of US East and West Coast life science & medical tech hubs and VC ecosystem, the ability to identify the right companies and people to engage, and a network within C-level and VP management at life science SMEs and scale-ups
  • The ability to work independently while being part of a team
  • Excellent spoken and written English – to get complex ideas across to prospects and to understand the intricacies of their businesses
  • Ideally, Asian language ability and experience of living and working in Korea, Japan, China, SEA or India – to relate to our company’s history and mission
  • Demonstrated interest in healthcare and life science technologies, and international business
  • A degree in bioscience, health tech or a related technical subject, with additional qualifications in business, management a bonus
