Funding injection fuels Asian expansion for electronics pioneer

Funding injection fuels Asian expansion for electronics pioneer

We’ve been appointed by a British scaleup that’s making dramatic advances in electronics technology – to help it expand into South Korea and Taiwan on the back of a major fundraising round.

Cambridge-based Paragraf has developed a method of making graphene-based sensors (pictured above) which is set to revolutionise the electronics industry.

Incredibly strong yet flexible, graphene can be applied to semiconductor substrates – including silicon, gallium nitride, silicon carbide and silicon germanium - to improve performance. Applied in this way, graphene enables devices to operate in demanding circumstances such as extremely hot, radioactive or strongly magnetic environments. It also delivers significant environmental benefits including reduced device power consumption.

The applications for Paragraf’s technology are vast across the green energy, semiconductor and sensor fields. And the company is the world’s first to find a way to manufacture at scale – and is busy increasing production accordingly.

On the strength of its pioneering approach, the firm has just closed a Series B funding round, securing $60 million to expand its R&D and fuel its international growth.

The financing is being led by US deeptech investor New Science Ventures and includes Parkwalk, Amadeus Capital Partners, IQ Capital, Molten Ventures, British Patient Capital and US based In-Q-Tel.

Members of our Electronics Practice in Seoul and Taipei have kicked off work straight away, seeking customers for Paragraf in the automotive, aerospace, consumer and industrial electronics, medical devices and quantum computing sectors.

They’ll be approaching a broad range of players within these fields from OEMs to niche component makers, as well as pursuing partnerships with research labs.

Taiwan - one of Paragraf's target tech markets

Dr Simon Thomas, Paragraf’s CEO, explained: “Our graphene technology is truly pioneering, and our funding injection will enable us to manufacture at scale, advance our technology even further and expand overseas.

"Korea and Taiwan are vital growth areas for us because of the strength of their corporations in the electronics, automotive and battery fields, and their drive to develop more sustainable, power-efficient products. But these are complex markets – and we knew we’d need help to crack them. We hired Intralink because of their ability to provide us with an immediate presence on the ground, their breadth of contacts in Asian corporations and their track record in securing deals.”
