Japan & Korea support for high-growth scaleups via second Tech Nation programme

Japan & Korea support for high-growth scaleups via second Tech Nation programme

We’re enjoying delivering a second programme for Tech Nation, the UK tech company growth platform, to help ten pioneering scaleups accelerate their expansion in Asia.

We’re supporting the high-growth tech firms with fully subsidised, on-the-ground business development services in Japan and Korea. This includes in-country research, advice on market growth strategies and outreach to potential customers and partners on the companies’ behalf.

This work follows our support last year for the first cohort of businesses on Tech Nation’s International Growth Programme – a UK government initiative to accelerate scaleups’ overseas expansion.

The latest companies we’re helping to grow in Japan include AI photography specialist Alice Camera, fintech innovator Delio, women’s healthtech startup Elvie, location intelligence firm Intelligent AI, voice recognition pioneer Speechmatics and enterprise apps developer Softools.

The businesses we’re supporting in South Korea are renewable energy innovator Bramble Energy, thermal imaging firm Satellite Vu, and Wolf & Badger, the B Corp marketplace connecting ethical brands with socially conscious consumers.

Gareth Lewis, CEO at Delio, said: “Having won our first Japanese client in 2021, this programme is providing Delio with an effective way of building on this early traction and exploring further opportunities in the country. The team’s connections and market knowledge are already opening doors to financial institutions we’d probably have struggled to engage through traditional methods.”

Tim Turner-Sutton, APAC General Manager at Wolf & Badger, said: “The team has been incredibly diligent and efficient, while taking the time to understand our business. This has enabled them to gather relevant data, present insights and establish connections on our behalf with potential partners including platforms, retailers and operators. We can see the programme helping us accelerate our growth in Asia Pacific.”

And, for Alice Camera, CEO Vishal Kumar added: “Through Tech Nation’s International Growth Programme, we were introduced to Intralink, who have significantly reduced the entry barriers to Japan by helping us reach out to traditional players in the camera industry, alongside influencer agencies and content creators. We hope to scale our efforts and foresee at least a quarter of our sales coming from Japan.”
